2010 Performance Review

During fiscal year 2010 Medtronic demonstrated continued improvement in all categories of environmental metrics that the company tracks, continuing our trend toward meeting or exceeding our fiscal year 2013 goals. Improvements from fiscal year 2009 to fiscal year 2010 were greatest in air emissions, regulated waste and energy use. As the table above illustrates, we have exceeded all of our EHS goals well in advance of the target year. As our business grows, our challenge will be to maintain and further enhance our performance. As we work to do so, we will reassess our 2013 goals to ensure that we continue to minimize our environmental impact.

External Partnerships, Recognition and Certifications

Medtronic participates in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program and the Minnesota Environmental Initiative’s Clean Air Program, which strives to reduce air pollution. We also participate in key environmental initiatives such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, and are a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, North America.

Six Medtronic locations are certified to the ISO 14001 Standard for environmental management systems: Shanghai, China; Deggendorf, Germany; Galway, Ireland; Heerlen, Netherlands; Shoreview, Minnesota, USA; and Woodbury, Minnesota, USA.
