Activities Related to Climate Change

Because the medical device industry is not energy-intensive, current climate change regulations do not significantly impact Medtronic operations. However, we recognize our responsibility to manage our activities to minimize our contribution of climate altering emissions. Our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 10 percent by fiscal year 2013 (normalized to revenue and compared to fiscal year 2007) and our ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency support this commitment..

For example, we have incorporated many energy conservation practices and energy-efficient technologies at our facilities, including energy efficient lighting, windows, and equipment. Our Facilities coordinates the installation of energy efficient items in new construction and also evaluates energy usage in existing buildings, making energy improvements when appropriate.

Medtronic participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) annual survey. Our 2010 CDP submission on the company’s GHG emissions and climate change strategies will be available in fall 2010.
