Water Conservation
Medtronic used approximately 1.2 million cubic meters of water in fiscal year 2010, representing more than a 10 percent reduction compared to fiscal year 2009, normalized to revenue.
We achieved significant savings at our U.S. facilities in Tempe, Arizona; Memphis, Tennessee; and Fridley, Minnesota by implementing projects to optimize production, water purification, and cooling systems, as well as more efficient irrigation programs.
Medtronic Microelectronics Center Increases Evaporation Cycles to Conserve Water
Employees at the Medtronic Microelectronics Center in Tempe, Arizona, USA modified facility cooling tower operations so that water is used for four cycles instead of two, reducing the amount of water required by the system while maintaining similar performance. This change saved 17,000 cubic meters of water and $30,000 annually.
