Talent Acquisition and Management

Attracting and retaining a talented team of professionals ensures that we are able to meet the technical demands of our product portfolio and pipeline; understand the changing healthcare environment, rules, and regulations; and navigate successfully, amid a very competitive business landscape.

Medtronic attracts top talent by offering internships for both technical and MBA students, providing a Leadership Development Rotation Program, encouraging employee referrals, and sponsoring professional organization career fairs and conferences.

Through our talent management programs, Medtronic’s 40,000 employees have the opportunity to continually develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Medtronic offers an array of resources for achieving personal growth and career satisfaction, including:

  • mentoring and peer advisor programs;
  • on-site classes and e-learning opportunities;
  • an internal technical forum, where employees exchange ideas, share knowledge, and challenge one another with technical questions relevant to the business;
  • customized development plans;
  • self-assessment and feedback tools;
  • tuition reimbursement and scholarships; and
  • online job listings where employees can seek new internal career opportunities.

The Medtronic Talent Council (MTC), comprised of senior Human Resource leaders at both the corporate and business level, leads our global talent management strategy. Key factors include:

  • Performance Management – the alignment of employee performance with the Medtronic Mission and business strategies.
  • Development Planning – a partnership between manager and employee to assess development areas and identify competencies to be developed for future roles.
  • Talent Identification – a process to identify and develop future Medtronic leaders.
  • Rewards and Recognition – resources that promote the varied contributions of employees.

MTC strategies are executed by the Medtronic Talent Acquisition Council, the Medtronic Talent Initiative Council, the Medtronic Talent Development Council and the Medtronic University Council.

Employee Reviews

Annual performance reviews for all full-time and part-time employees facilitate the talent management process. During reviews, employees receive feedback on the execution of strategic objectives assigned to them during the year as well as the Medtronic Core Behaviors: Customer Focus, Candor, Trust and Respect, Courage, Accountability, and Passion to Win.

Using this information, managers and employees work together to create action plans to develop current and future competencies applicable to their current positions and to their next career opportunity.
