Corporate Philanthropy

Through a combination of Medtronic Foundation giving and donations of cash and medical devices by Medtronic, Inc., our total philanthropic contributions equaled $59.9 million in fiscal year 2011.

While Medtronic Foundation contributions reached $30.6 million, an increase of $1.4 million over last year, we did experience decreases in corporate cash and product donations when compared to fiscal year 2010. This is due in part to a significant one-time increase in product donations in response to the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

The Medtronic Foundation focuses giving in three areas where we can make unique and positive contributions: Health, Education, and Community. In fiscal year 2011, we contributed the following percentage to each focus area: Health 48 percent, Education 27 percent, and Community 25 percent. Medtronic Foundation international contributions also increased from 22 percent in fiscal year 2010 to 24 percent in fiscal year 2011.
