What is the Global Heroes program?

The Global Heroes program is a cooperative effort between Twin Cities in Motion, the organizers of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, and Medtronic, the global leader in medical technology.

The Global Heroes program recognizes runners from around the world who have a medical device to treat conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, chronic pain and spinal and neurological disorders.

When are the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and Medtronic 10 Mile Race?

Both events take place Sunday, October 6, 2013. Global Hero team members arrive on Thursday, October 3 and can depart October 6 or October 7.

Can you tell me more about the event weekend?

Known as The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America, the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend is a three-day celebration of fitness that includes the Medtronic TC Family Events, TC 5K, TC 10K, Medtronic TC 10 Mile, and the marathon. Visit https://www.tcmevents.org/ for more information.

When is the application due?

The application must be received electronically by midnight on April 26, 2013 to be considered for the 2013 Global Heroes program.

Can I mail in my application?

No. Please apply via our online application. Only electronic applications will be accepted.

When will I be notified if I am selected as a Global Hero?

Global Heroes will be notified via email or mail no later than June 3, 2013.

Does my medical device need to be manufactured by Medtronic to qualify?

No. All runners with eligible medical devices are welcome to apply with no restriction on manufacturer.

Which medical devices or conditions are eligible?

See Medtronic Global Heroes guidelines for details.

Do I have to live in the United States to be eligible for the paid travel expenses?

No. We welcome applications from runners across the globe.

Are there any age restrictions for eligibility?

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Do I need to consult with a physician before I apply?

Runners with eligible devices or conditions must consult with a physician who deems you medically fit to participate in the race (certification of physician approval to participate must be presented if runner is selected for the Global Heroes program).

Are Medtronic or Twin Cities in Motion employees eligible?

No. Medtronic and Twin Cities in Motion employees and their immediate family members are not eligible.

I am a former Medtronic Global Hero. Can I apply again?

No. Previous Medtronic Global Heroes are not eligible to apply again.
