Who is a candidate for Deep Brain Stimulation?

Therapeutic success depends on the proper assessment and selection of patients. Deep Brain Stimulation control Therapy has been shown to be most effective in patients with the following diagnoses and symptoms *, **

  • Patients presenting with essential tremor
  • Patients diagnosed with levodopa-responsive, idiopathic Parkinson's disease
  • Patients experiencing motor symptoms that present a significant functional disability
  • Patients experiencing either reduced effectiveness or unacceptable side-effects from anti-parkinsonian medication
  • Patients who are physical and emotional candidates for surgery
