Community Involvement
Our commitment to corporate citizenship is underscored by our deep involvement in our local communities. We partner with local organizations and our 40,000 employees worldwide to actively support and develop creative efforts that promote healthy people and communities.
We've learned that by bringing together multiple resources – grants, employee volunteers, strategic sponsorships and other unique initiatives – we extend our ability to make a difference, while helping our nonprofit partners increase the impact of their good work.
Mission in Motion

Our Mission in Motion program fosters employee engagement by providing a variety of opportunities for volunteerism and giving.
We put the Medtronic Mission in Motion through a global network of employee-led Community Councils and Mission in Motion Ambassadors who facilitate local grantmaking, giving programs and employee volunteerism at our major facilities.
In addition, our annual Mission in Motion Momentum Awards celebrate individuals, teams, managers, and retirees who demonstrate outstanding commitment to their communities and inspire others to act.
Volunteerism

Our Volunteer Grants encourage employees to pursue causes close to their hearts by lending their time and talents to the local community, whether it's working at a local food shelf, coaching youth sports, or mentoring students. For every 25 hours of employee service, the Medtronic Foundation awards $500 annually to nonprofit/non-government organizations. An additional $500 is available as a matching gift.
Project 6 is an annual global volunteer program that encourages employees to carry out the sixth tenet of our Mission – "to maintain good citizenship as a company" – in their local communities during the month of June through employee-led volunteer projects such as meal distribution, clothing drives, and cleaning local parks and beaches.
Disaster Relief
A Medtronic employee
contributes through
skill-based volunteerism
Our Disaster Relief volunteer program allows employees to take up to five days of paid time off to volunteer with a non-profit organization and assist with recovery efforts from designated major disasters. Learn how Medtronic employee Dr. Dayna Wolfe personally responded to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
Impelled by the plight of those affected by catastrophic natural disasters, the Medtronic Foundation also conducts employee matching gift campaigns in response to specific events.
Community Resources

The Medtronic Foundation provides a variety of free resources that promote community health, including:
- Science Matters, a free 24-page booklet sponsored by the Medtronic Foundation designed as a tool for parents and educators to help K-6 students unlock the world of science and discovery at home and school. (Learn more about the publication and where to pick up a free copy or download an electronic version today.)
