More

Employee Engagement

Our greatest strength lies in the quality and integrity of our employees and the passion they share for saving and enhancing the lives of others, so we continually strive to provide a positive work environment that welcomes people with differing backgrounds and perspectives and helps them grow both professionally and personally.

Our goal is to create and sustain a workplace where all employees are fully engaged in corporate citizenship.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our Office of Workplace Inclusion partners with executive leadership and individual business divisions to provide support and resources to recruit, retain, and develop a diverse workforce.

Each business and geography has its own Diversity and Inclusion Council to help ensure initiatives are offered across the company. The councils recommend programs that help employees reach their full potential, set priorities for addressing diversity issues, and serve as diversity champions throughout the organization.

In addition, our Employee Resource Groups connect employees with common backgrounds or orientations. Group activities support employee development, education, training, and community involvement. The groups also provide insight and counsel to various business functions, such as Human Resources and Community Affairs, as well as senior leadership teams.

Our Office of Workplace Inclusion also partners with Medtronic University, integrating diversity and inclusion into development programs such as New Employee Orientation, Becoming a Medtronic Manager, Experienced Leader Training, and Director Development Training.

Career Development

Medtronic offers employees several career development tools and resources, such as customized development plans, self-assessment and feedback tools, mentoring and peer advisor programs, Medtronic University online courses, and tuition reimbursement and scholarships.

We also provide a full portfolio of leadership development programs for all levels and a corporate Leadership Development Rotation program for new MBA employees who take two 12- to 18-month assignments, which expose them to our core businesses, therapies and leaders.

Our Volunteer Grants encourage employees to pursue causes close to their hearts by lending their time and talents to the local community, whether it's working at a local food shelf, coaching youth sports, or mentoring students. For every 25 hours of employee service, the Medtronic Foundation awards $500 annually to nonprofit/non-government organizations. An additional $500 is available as a matching gift.

Project 6 is an annual global volunteer program that encourages employees to carry out the sixth tenet of our Mission – "to maintain good citizenship as a company" – in their local communities during the month of June through employee-led volunteer projects such as meal distribution, clothing drives, and cleaning local parks and beaches.

Employee Giving

At Medtronic, we believe that employee giving is a vital component of employee engagement. To foster participation, we let employees follow their passions and support their local communities through easily accessible giving programs, including annual United Way campaigns at our largest U.S. facilities and our Matching Gifts for Education. Both receive a dollar-for-dollar match from Medtronic and the Medtronic Foundation, respectively.

Medtronic also encourages local giving campaigns and provides guidance to employees on programs such as Donate Your Stuff, which coordinates donations of personal and household items to community organizations; Soap for Hope, which provides toiletries to those in need; and Project Warm Hearts, which brings together knitters who create hats, mittens, scarves, afghans and other hand-knit items to benefit selected non-profit organizations in the community.
