Medical professionals and aid organizations: do you need medical devices for Haiti?
Medtronic is donating spinal and perfusion-related devices to the disaster relief effort in Haiti. We are working with Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach (HSMO) in this effort. If you are a medical professional or aid organization looking for medical supplies in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, please contact Brad Walton at bwalton@hsosf-usa.org or 217-525-8843.
How else is Medtronic helping in Haiti?
To date, Medtronic has devoted $2.1 million to relief efforts in Haiti. In addition to nearly $900,000 in medical device donations, we are also helping by:
- Pledging $1.2 million through the Medtronic Foundation to support earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The $1.2 million is comprised of:
- $750,000 in Foundation grants directed to the rebuilding of healthcare infrastructure in Haiti. We are currently assessing potential nonprofit partners to lead these longer-term rebuilding efforts,
- $350,000 devoted toward a match for employee donations, with matching funds directed to Partners in Health (pih.org) for short-term relief, and
- $100,000 in donations to several additional relief organizations that are helping provide food and medical care to those in need in Haiti.
- Supporting volunteerism efforts—Medtronic employees worldwide are provided five days of paid leave to assist in recovery efforts after disasters like the one in Haiti.
- Granting money for first-response efforts—in addition to the $2.1 million noted above, Medtronic Foundation also has an existing five-year, $500,000 grant to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies disaster relief fund, which ensures that immediate financial support is available for responding to emergencies including the one in Haiti.
