Every Patient First
Transforming Healthcare Disparities Into Health Equity
Despite all the medical innovations available today, many people face barriers that prevent them from receiving therapies to improve or save their lives. While barriers affect people from all walks of life, the challenges are especially acute for racial and ethnic minorities and women.
By mid-century, the nation will be more racially and ethnically diverse, as well as much older. Unless current trends change, more people will find themselves without access to the best care.
Now is the time for us to recognize that healthcare disparities are real and that we hold the key to unlocking the door to equitable treatment.
To that end, Medtronic has developed Every Patient First, a health equity initiative in partnership with healthcare providers, policy makers, professional societies, and patient advocacy groups. Through this grassroots program, we're helping uncover and eliminate inadvertent healthcare disparities so that every patient is ensured optimal care.
What is healthcare disparity?
Differences in healthcare delivery that are not the result of clinical needs, patient preferences, the appropriateness of the intervention, or access-related issues like insurance.
What is health equity?
Equal utilization and distribution of healthcare delivery according to clinical needs that result in equal access to treatment and equal health outcomes.
