At Medtronic we aim to do business with suppliers that exceed our expectations. We look for certain criteria in our suppliers that will allow us to do business in an effective and efficient way. It is with these considerations that we form a strategic focus for our supply base that is used across all of Medtronic:

Total Cost

Lowest total cost competitive pricing: achieved through high quality and low cost processes
A passion for continuous improvement (Lean-Sigma), Design Reliability & Manufacturability (DRM) and value engineering supported at all levels of the organization

Quality

Ability to meet requirements
Excellent track record with quality and delivery through deployment of mature quality management systems (i.e. ISO 13485, FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820 CGMP)
Skills and willingness to continuously improve manufacturability and reliability with an effective corrective and preventive action system
Robust change notification control processes in place with supporting validation capabilities

Access to a global supply network
Effective sub-tier supplier management

Risk Mitigation

Financial stability and effective business continuity plans and processes
Mature risk analysis process and the ability to develop effective process controls that are sustained over time
Suppliers that recognize they share in the responsibility to deliver the Medtronic mission by adhering to Medtronic’s Responsible Supply Chain policies
Compliance with applicable laws and diligent in ethical business practices, environmental responsibility, workplace health and safety, and human resources
