Endovascular Therapies
Our Endovascular Therapies business is among the fastest-growing divisions of Medtronic and has been for the past five years. It spans two segments: Aortic and Peripheral. The Aortic segment develops stent grafts and auxiliary technology for the minimally invasive repair of aneurysms in the aorta, the main artery in the body that branches off the heart. The Peripheral segment develops stents and balloon catheters for the interventional treatment of narrowed arteries beyond the heart and brain, carrying blood throughout the body to the lower extremities.

Aortic Stent Grafts

Made from a specially woven fabric sewn onto a wire-mesh frame, these tubular medical devices are placed inside an aortic aneurysm – a blood-filled or ballooning section of the body's major blood vessel – to reinforce the aortic wall and help prevent the aneurysm from bursting, which usually results in death. The stent graft is put in the body via a catheter (thin plastic tube), which is inserted into an artery in the leg near the groin and guided to the aneurysm, which can be in the region of the abdomen or chest. We make stent grafts for both abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms.
Peripheral Stents and Balloon Catheters

Formed from advanced metal alloys into wire-mesh tubes, stents are used to open narrowed arteries and keep them open. They can be balloon-expandable or self-expanding. Balloon catheters are used to prepare narrowed arteries for stenting or as an alternative to stenting. They can be semi-compliant or non-compliant. Both types of devices come in various shapes and sizes to address a wide range of clinical and anatomical considerations, which influence the choice of device category and characteristics.
