What was your LDRP Functional Track?

Tell us about your LDRP experiences and your impact.

My first rotation was doing business development in our Neuromodulation group. During my time there, I was responsible for scouting and evaluating external partnerships and opportunities. This rotation provided me with a very broad, cross-functional understanding of the business with a long-term strategic perspective.

My second rotation was based out of Singapore in a downstream marketing role for our Coronary and Structural Heart businesses. I found out very quickly that this role was more than it seemed. Over the next year I would integrate two acquisitions, setup a distributor in Vietnam, "carry the bag," and launch a new coronary stent platform across the region. Most impacting, however, were the people and teams that I worked with in the region. I learned a lot about the variety of rich cultures and how one must adapt to doing business differently based on regional business practices.

How did the LDRP program help you in your current role?

Like many of my LDRP colleagues, I came into the program looking for broad marketing experience across multiple geographies/businesses. In my current role, I am responsible for the global launch of an innovative sutureless heart valve. My cross-functional experience in business development helps me partner more effectively by better understanding the functional challenges and processes. My cardiovascular experience across ASEAN has given me a great network of individuals and in-region experience that facilitates a smooth launch for my existing product.

What was your most satisfying LDRP experience?

My most satisfying experience was getting to know my fellow LDRP classmates and living the Medtronic Mission at Camp Courage. Our class set out to "rough it" for a few days and work on needed projects at a camp dedicated to the rehabilitation and empowerment of people with disabilities. Through those projects and team building events onsite, our LDRP class shared what the mission meant for each of us, and I left with a deeper appreciation and connection with many of my classmates, whom I still keep in touch with to this day.

How does Medtronic's Mission show in your day to day work?

Nothing can be closer to the mission than bringing innovative and life-saving therapy to patients in need. The biggest reward that I receive is when I hear how well patients are doing after receiving the therapy I manage. Often, the patients who receive this product do not have a safe alternative, and without access the prognosis is unfavorable. The Medtronic team behind this product and the surgeons that I work with are leaders in their field. These partnerships have contributed to many developments that at their core alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life...

What do you love about your current location?

Minneapolis is a great city with plenty to offer. My wife and I are both from the south, so I we weren't sure about the prospect of moving so far north away from family. Five years later, we are very happy with our decision. We live in a very family-friendly neighborhood, and we spend most of our summer weekends with friends enjoying many of Minnesota's 10,000 Lakes.
