Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the result of the build up of fatty deposits (plaque) in the coronary arteries. These arteries supply blood to the heart muscle. The blockage in the coronary artery prevents blood from reaching the heart muscle. Blockages can occur in one or several of the coronary arteries. Physicians will diagnose CAD and recommend a specific treatment for a particular disease condition.
