Valve Repair with Annuloplasty
Various techniques are used in mitral reconstruction. The goal is to achieve a satisfactory functional result rather than a return to a normal anatomic structure. A reconstructed valve with slight residual stenosis or insufficiency still provides more benefits for the patient than valve replacement.1 It should be remembered that the mitral apparatus has a large margin of safety. It can adapt to moderate degrees of papillary muscle dysfunction, leaflet immobility, and subvalvular rigidity.
Ring annuloplasty is used to restore an optimal orifice area and shape, provide support, and prevent further annular dilatation.
The Duran Flexible Annuloplasty ring and band are used because they have been shown to maintain physiologic function, reduce risk of dehiscence, and minimize risk of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
The CG Future semi-rigid band is designed to predictably remodel the annulus to maintain apposition of the anterior and posterior leaflets. Its low profile band design makes it easier to implant.
