Joining Medtronic allowed me to take my career in a new direction. I was doing well as an international corporate banker, with stints in New York City, London, and Madrid. But what I really wanted was to contribute to the well-being of others. I was drawn to medical technology by the pace of innovation, and to Medtronic, specifically, because of the Mission-driven culture and willingness to take a chance on an ex-banker.

I started here as a Business Development Manager for Diabetes in Western Europe, right after getting my MBA. I moved on to increasingly challenging assignments and participated in some excellent leadership development programs along the way. As Business Director for Gastro-Uro, my current role is really much more about therapy development than just product sales. Our challenge is to make today’s innovative treatment, i.e. sacral nerve stimulation1, tomorrow’s standard of care. It’s exciting to give doctors a viable solution to a severe incontinence problem where none existed before.

Medtronic changes people’s lives. I see this with parents of close friends who are enjoying activities that wouldn’t be possible without their Medtronic pacemakers and stents. And I’m enjoying my job not only because of the positive impact on patients' lives, but also because of the continuous learning and, quite frankly, the fun with great colleagues every day. I'm always proud to tell people I work for Medtronic.

What I like most about working at Medtronic: At the end of every Medtronic lead or catheter is a real person whose life is better because of one of our therapies. It's not just about hitting revenue targets, but about helping transform people's lives.

What's next in my career: One of my greatest satisfactions as a manager is watching team members grow professionally, receive promotions, and win awards. I'd like to take that to another level by learning to lead in situations that go beyond direct, face-to-face contact.
