Sarah - Administrative Assistant, Human Resources

I'm a family-first person, but career is also important to me. I started in HR at a retail store in California and also worked in corporate HR for a California-based bank. My husband was relocated "back home" to Minneapolis in 1997. A few months later I was hired as a Senior Benefits Analyst for Medtronic Corporate Benefits, which had the supportive environment I was looking for. I then became Senior HR Representative within CardioVascular, so I could get experience within a business unit.

When my daughter started school, I wanted to work part-time, so I could still be home to meet the bus. And I hoped to return to Medtronic, because I value working for a company that improves the health and well-being of people around the world.

I was rehired in 2007 and now have a part-time position in Corporate HR Communication, doing project work for our global HR team. Now I'm home when my kids are home, and I even have time to volunteer and exercise regularly. On top of that, as a part-time employee, I still have access to a very generous benefits package. I really appreciate that Medtronic helps employees balance work and life.

Joined Medtronic: 1998; rehired in 2007

Grew up in: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Education: Gustavus Adolophus College, bachelor's in Psychology

Helpful resource: I really liked Medtronic's New Parent Kit. It's mailed to homes of employees when they have a child. It's a great way to support the transition a family makes when they welcome a new child into their lives.

What I do to give back: I tutor and support the development of students in my local community. I also volunteer at my church and with some local non-profit organizations.
