Education Manager, Diabetes
Shanghai, China
My first exposure to the company was as a college student learning about the business side of medicine. Medtronic is one of the most famous medical device companies in the world, and I was impressed by the company's strong Vision and Mission. After three years with a major pharmaceutical company, I accepted a sales position with Medtronic Diabetes.
I've held a number of sales and sales management positions here, with excellent training and support along the way. In early 2007, I took on the newly created position of Education Manager for Diabetes. It's challenging, because there's so much potential, but no model to follow. We created a physician education program from the ground up, leveraging education work done in other areas of the company. Within a few months, we had conducted education sessions across China, generated many insulin pump inquiries, and initiated a multi-site clinical observation program for our continuous glucose monitoring system.
Creating a new program was rewarding on many levels. I enjoying collaborating and learning from colleagues, and the skills I gained will help me further my career. But building awareness for our diabetes therapies is the most satisfying, because it means more people all across China will use our products to better manage their glucose levels and improve their health.
Joined Medtronic: 2004

What I do for fun:
I travel a lot for business, but that's good because I enjoy it. Travel and reading are two of my favorite activities outside of work.
Favorite quote:
"The road ahead is long and far, high and low will I seek." That's how our work in diabetes education feels. We have a long way to go, but it is very much worth doing.
