Michael

Team Lead
Diabetes
San Antonio, TX
Describe a typical day in your position.
Each day I am providing leadership and support to our brilliant technicians, working to better practices, and handling escalated issues.
Why do you enjoy working at Medtronic?
My work provides purpose. That is to say, in a small way (and maybe not so small way, at times) I truly get to help better people's lives.
What do you love about your job?
I love our diversity. The synergies created by teamwork from individuals with diverse backgrounds are one of our greatest assets.
At times a customer calls with questions or concerns about his or her diabetes therapy management and is fretting about personal safety. By the end of this type of call, feelings of angst are long gone and the customer remains confident in our products and services. Balance is restored and life is good, again.
I especially enjoy telling new customers, "Welcome to the Medtronic family. And here at Medtronic, we take great care of our family." Seriously, I do say this!
How does Medtronic's Mission show in your day to day work?
Unfailingly, I provide our customers with service and support second-to-none and work for the betterment of Medtronic, my fellow employees, and myself every day.
What is challenging about your job?
Making sure our customers receive world-class service on each and every call. Maintaining a positive, productive environment on the floor at all times by keeping techs motivated and engaged.
What do you appreciate most about Medtronic?
We really do "alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life"; a noble calling, indeed.
What are your greatest accomplishments?
I have three children; each one an honor roll student and a wife who I have been married to 18 years and counting.
How do you give back?
I give back by participating in programs for Junior Achievement, spending time at the local food bank, and lots of school-based charitable activities with my children.
What do you love about your current location?
San Antonio, Texas is a great place to raise children and the winters are mild! Not everyone here is a Dallas Cowboys fan (I'm originally from Washington, DC).
What is one random fact about you?
I was an amateur ballroom dance champion.
What advice would you give to job candidates?
Quality of work and reliability count above all.
What is your favorite quote?
It's not the mountain you climb; it's the pebble in your shoe.
How do you balance your life?
At the risk of sounding like a simpleton, I start each day with my personal credo: At the start of my day I look in the mirror and say, "I will do good, today." At the end of the day I want to make sure I can look in the mirror and say, "I did well."
