Medtronic's Leadership Development Rotation Program (LDRP) provides a unique opportunity for highly talented individuals to accelerate their development in leadership skills and build core competencies in specific career disciplines. This program provides employees exposure and visibility to several different business units and geographies within Medtronic.

The Medtronic Leadership Development Rotation Program is a premier opportunity not only to prepare for a rewarding and challenging career, but also to make a significant contribution to the organization and to our patients worldwide.

The program is structured to expose participants to experiences focused in each of the following development areas:

  • Stretch work assignments
  • Cross-business exposure
  • Ongoing mentoring and coaching
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Targeted educational experiences

Areas of Focus

Corporate Development

The Corporate Development LDRP participant will play a critical role in achieving business results by designing and executing key corporate development strategies. The Corporate Development LDRP participant serves as the project manager for corporate development projects including mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, joint ventures, minority investments, and licenses and divestitures. The Corporate Development LDRP participant:

  • Works in close partnership with and manages the efforts of project teams, which generally include personnel from various corporate and/or business unit functional departments including finance, tax, law, human resources and benefits, purchasing and procurement, information technology, quality assurance, and regulatory.
  • Drives corporate development activity by performing or directing strategic and market analysis, financial analysis, deal structuring and negotiation, and due diligence coordination.
  • Assesses project requirements and manages them to completion, identifies and manages personnel resources, and prepares and presents proposals and recommendations to executive management.
  • Serves as the primary interface between the third party, Medtronic business unit personnel and management, and Medtronic corporate personnel and management.
  • Is generally required to manage 4 to 6 projects at any one time.

Successful candidates will have an MBA with a Finance concentration. Three to five years of relevant business experience is required. Experience in the medical or healthcare field is preferred.

Ideal candidates will have:

Finance

The Finance Leadership Development Rotation Program is a 2-year accelerated development program that provides employees an opportunity to gain exposure and visibility to several different business units and geographies within Medtronic. This is a very prestigious program reserved for the highest caliber internal and external talent. The program consists of two 12 month stretch assignments under strong managers.

Finance Leadership Development Rotation Program participants will provide decision support in the form of business, financial and operational analysis to functional departments. They will apply financial and operational knowledge to address a variety of complex business problems and opportunities in both an individual and team environment, striving to develop and enhance business partnering between Finance and business functions. The stretch job assignment may be focused in any number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Financial modeling
  • Cost management
  • Budget analysis & planning
  • Operational & process design
  • Financial accounting

The assignment may be focused in any number of areas, including treasury, strategic planning, corporate finance, business unit operations, or geographic sales.

Example Finance Leadership Development Rotation Program projects include:

  • Capital investment analyses
  • Acquisition/divestiture business modeling
  • Valuation of R&D or venture developments
  • Analysis of alternative pricing strategies
  • Capacity expansion decision analysis
  • Economic value added analysis
  • Customer/market studies (share, penetration, trends)

Successful candidates will have an MBA with a Finance concentration. Three to five years of related work experience in accounting or operations finance is required. Examples of relevant experience include public accounting, manufacturing finance, cost center support, sales reporting, and financial reporting. Certification such as CPA, CFA, or CMA is considered a plus. Experience in the medical or healthcare field is also beneficial.

Human Resources

The HR Leadership Development Rotation Program is a 2-year accelerated development program that provides employees an opportunity to gain exposure and visibility to several different business units and geographies within Medtronic. This is a very prestigious program reserved for the highest caliber internal and external talent. The program consists of two 12-month stretch assignments under strong managers.

Human Resources Leadership Development Rotation Program participants will provide business support in the form of specialist and/or generalist expertise to clients. They will apply HR knowledge to address a variety of complex business problems and opportunities in both an individual and team environment, striving to develop and enhance business partnering between HR and business leaders. The stretch job assignment may be focused in any number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Compensation
  • Benefits
  • Talent Acquisition
  • Training and Development
  • Executive and Leadership Development
  • Diversity/Inclusion
  • Organizational Development
  • Organizational Change Management
  • HR Information Systems
  • HR Generalist

Example HR Leadership Development Rotation Program assignments include:

  • Providing HR generalist support to business partners
  • Conducting a leadership development needs analysis and implement strategies to address developmental needs.
  • Designing a streamlined Talent Acquisition process and implementing the Targeted Selection interview method to hiring managers
  • Introducing new Talent Management tools and processes to the organization to support succession planning, performance management and development planning
  • Leading a job-leveling analysis for employees working in a business unit recently acquired by Medtronic.

Successful candidates will have an MBA or a Master's degree in HR or Industrial/Labor Relations. Three to five years of related work experience in human resources is required. Experience in the medical or healthcare field is also beneficial.

Information Technology

The IT Leadership Development Rotation Program is a 2-year accelerated development program that provides employees an opportunity to gain exposure and visibility to several different business units and geographies within Medtronic. This is a very prestigious program reserved for the highest caliber internal and external talent. The program consists of two 12-month stretch assignments under strong managers.

IT Leadership Development Rotation Program participants will provide business support in the form of technical and project management expertise to clients. They will apply IT knowledge to address a variety of complex business problems and opportunities in both an individual and team environment, striving to develop and enhance business partnering between IT and business leaders. The stretch job assignment may be focused in any number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Sales Force Automation
  • Quality Systems Strategy
  • Global SAP Implementation
  • Project Management Leadership
  • Customer Relationship Management Strategy
  • eBusiness Strategy
  • Manufacturing/Supply Chain Strategy
  • Global Shared Services Integration

Example IT Leadership Development Rotation Program projects include:

  • Developing a Customer Relationship Management strategy across Cardiac Surgery
  • Developing an eBusiness strategy for Western European countries
  • Managing an IT team that provides solutions for Neuro Manufacturing and Supply Chain
  • Optimizing CardioVascular's Supply Chain strategy
  • Serving as the onsite Project Manager for an IT integration project based in Australia
  • Leading the business requirement phase to develop wireless productivity tools for our sales force

The Marketing Leadership Development Rotation Program provides a unique opportunity for highly talented individuals to accelerate their development in leadership skills and build core competencies in specific career disciplines. This program is a 3 year development program that provides employees exposure and visibility to several different business units and geographies within Medtronic.

During the program, participants take on two 18-month assignments. The Leadership Development Rotation Program is a premier opportunity not only to prepare for a rewarding and challenging career, but also to make a significant contribution to the organization and to our patients worldwide.

This program is structured to expose participants to experiences focused in each of the following development areas:

  • Stretch work assignments
  • Cross-business exposure
  • Ongoing mentoring and coaching
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Targeted educational experiences

Marketing Leadership Development Rotation Program participants will play a critical role in achieving business results by designing and executing key marketing strategies. As a part of the Leadership Development Rotation Program, participants can expect to gain broad knowledge of Medtronic's Marketing function and a detailed understanding of the role Marketing plays in the specific areas in which assignments are completed.

Typical rotations may include assignments in any number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Brand/Product Management
  • Market Development
  • Business Development
  • Healthcare Economics

Examples of Marketing Leadership Development Rotation Program assignments include:

  • Establishing the strategic direction for a product line, including product education strategies for global launches and competitive strategy
  • Planning, executing and monitoring product launches
  • Performing pricing analysis and sales/revenue forecasts
  • Interfacing with customers in developing product plans and providing ongoing customer support
  • Providing leadership in expanding indications and stratifying existing indications
  • Collaborating with the field sales team to identify creative solutions for hospitals and physicians that will insure effective and efficient delivery of services.

Successful candidates will have:

  • An MBA with a Marketing concentration
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience in Marketing; experience in the medical or healthcare field is preferred
  • Excellent leadership and analytical skills
  • A solid foundation in business management fundamentals.

Supply Chain

The Supply Chain Leadership Development Rotation Program is a 2-year accelerated development program that provides employees an opportunity to gain exposure and visibility to several different business units and geographies within Medtronic. This is a very prestigious program reserved for the highest caliber internal and external talent. The program consists of two 12-month stretch assignments under strong managers.

Supply Chain Leadership Development Rotation Program participants will provide support to Medtronic's Supply Chain organization by participating in initiatives that are focused on making Medtronic “best in class.” Leadership Development Rotation Program participants can expect to gain general knowledge of Medtronic's Supply Chain Operations and a detailed understanding of the role Shared Services plays in supporting the function. Participants will work closely with Shared Services and respective Business Units/Geographies in providing analytical, process improvement and technological support for Supply Chain initiatives.

The stretch job assignment may be focused in any number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Planning
  • Sourcing
  • Product Creation
  • Order-to-Cash
  • Quality/Compliance

Example Leadership Development Rotation Program projects include:

  • Designing the global Order to Cash process
  • Leading the Product Hold Initiative
  • Developing Metric and Dashboard Reporting Processes
  • Developing and negotiating Service Level Agreements with BU's
  • Implementing RFID technology
  • Optimizing Distribution and Customer Service processes
  • Optimizing International and Domestic Transportation processes
  • Implementing Lean Sigma practices and process recommendations

Successful candidates will have an MBA with a Supply Chain concentration. Three to five years of related work experience in Supply Chain or Operations is desired. Experience in the medical or healthcare field is also beneficial.
