lead - A thin insulated wire with electrodes (electrical contacts) located near the tip.
lead, APT - The lead used in APT Neurostimulation is a small medical wire with special insulation. For spinal cord stimulation, it is placed next to the spinal cord through a needle. For peripheral nerve stimulation, it is placed directly on the nerve that's causing pain. The lead contains a set of electrodes (small electrical contacts) through which electrical stimulation is delivered to the spinal cord or peripheral nerves. This stimulation is often described as tingling.

lead, endocardial - A pacing or ICD lead that is threaded through a vein and secured to the inside of the heart.

lead, epicardial - A pacing lead attached to the outside surface of the heart. May also be called a myocardial lead.

lead, pacing - The flexible, insulated wire portion of a pacing system that delivers the pacemaker's electrical pulse to the heart. The lead also relays the heart's natural activity back to the pacemaker. A pacing lead consists of the following four parts: connector pin, lead body, fixation mechanism and one or more electrodes.

lead, transvenous - See lead, endocardial.
lead, tremor - A thin insulated wire with electrodes (electrical contacts) located near the tip. In Tremor Control Therapy, the lead is implanted in the brain so the electrodes are at the site to be stimulated.

leaflet calcification - Buildup of calcium salts on any one of the flaps of a heart valve
leaflet coaptation - The area where heart valve leaflets in the closed position contact each other
leaflet hinge - Point at which the heart valve leaflet is connected to the annulus
low suture drag - Sutures that require little effort to pass them through the sewing ring
