HOW PILLCAM™ CAN HELP DURING COVID-19

During this time when GI societies have recommended delaying elective procedures¹, we would like to share how the PillCam™capsule endoscopy (CE) platform can help alleviate the burden on hospitals while supporting efficient patient management. We know that determining whether to perform an urgent procedure is a complex decision under today’s circumstances. PillCam™ capsule endoscopy can help your decision-making process and offer several benefits including:

While we understand you may be seeking more ways to leverage PillCam™ CE platform during these unique circumstances, it’s important to recognize the technical differences, targeted anatomy, and intended uses of each capsule.

Capsules are intended for use only in the targeted anatomy shown above. Please refer to the product user manual for complete indication for use statements.

The new PillCam™ sensor belt (FGS-0605) is designed for improved convenience and comfort in capsule endoscopy. The new design includes a mandatory single-use disposable belt (FGS-0666) that surrounds the antennas to allow hygiene protection. Using the PillCam™ sensor belt for capsule endoscopy is simple for care providers and patients. Minimal preparation is required because the sensor belt is worn over clothing, with no need for the patient to undress or attach anything directly to the skin. The easy-fasten straps make attachment and removal effortless.

Please refer to the following chart for instructions³ to clean PillCam™ equipment after each patient use:

COMPONENT	CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Pillcam™ sensor belt	Wipe down all surfaces with alcohol (70% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol), making sure that all surfaces are exposed to alcohol for at least 1 minute.
Pillcam™ sensor array	Wipe the sensors gently with alcohol wipes (up to 70%). The alcohol will not remove the adhesive. Use alcohol sparingly and allow the sensor array to dry for 20 minutes. To remove adhesive from the sensor array (not from the human body), use white benzene Note: Use white benzene only in a well-ventilated area according to all precautions and instructions on the label.
Pillcam™ data recorder & cradle	Wipe down all surfaces with alcohol wipes (up to 70%).
Pillcam™ data recorder pouch	Wipe down all surfaces with alcohol (70% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol), making sure that all surfaces are exposed to alcohol for at least 1 minute.

Note: The suggested product cleaning instructions above follow standard methods for cleaning medical equipment and have not been validated for effectiveness against the COVID-19 virus. To clean the PillCam™ equipment surfaces, we recommend using alcohol wipes (up to 70%). Usage of other classes of disinfectants (Aldehydes, Oxidizing Agents, Quaternary Ammonium, Chlorine compounds, lodophor, Phenolic compounds) may stain or damage the materials.
