Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management Business Overview
Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management is focused on managing the entire spectrum of cardiac rhythm disorders to improve long-term patient care. With this intent in mind, seven Medtronic businesses work together using a comprehensive strategy that results in innovative solutions. These solutions allow physicians to monitor and treat their patients' changing cardiac conditions over a lifetime.

The Pacing Systems business is the leader in the pacing industry. Bradycardia Pacing designs and manufactures pacemakers that treat patients with bradycardia (too-slow heartbeat).

The Defibrillation Systems business is a leader in the development and manufacturing of implantable defibrillators for patients with tachyarrhythmia (too-fast heartbeat).

Medtronic Emergency Response Systems is the world's largest provider of external defibrillators for the initial treatment of sudden cardiac arrest. (Physio-Control merged with Medtronic on September 29, 1998.) Click here for a link to the Medtronic Emergency Response Systems site.

The Diagnostic and Monitoring business offers implantable heart monitors designed to diagnose heart-related syncope (unexplained episodes of fainting).

The Electrophysiology (EP) Systems business is a leading provider of electrophysiology products used for mapping and ablation.

The Atrial Therapy business has the first approved device to treat atrial arrhythmias (rapid, uncontrolled heartbeats in the upper chambers) with ventricular tachycardia and continues to do clinical research.

The Heart Failure business is researching several therapies for heart failure (the inability of the heart to maintain its workload of pumping blood to the body).

The above business units work together using a variety of solutions that involve researching and refining approaches to discover the most effective diagnostic and therapeutic answers that address the entire spectrum of cardiac rhythm disorders.
