Career Path within Medtronic
-
Currently, I perform preclinical studies that assess biological safety of new materials and therapies at Medtronic's Physiological Research Laboratories.
- Summer 2003 – I started as a Medtronic Summer Associate and worked with other study directors in the Biomaterials Department at PRL

Why did you join Medtronic?
I found the overall Medtronic experience during my internship very rewarding and finished the summer knowing Medtronic was my number one choice for full-time employment. The projects I worked on were within the scope of my education and my co-workers were supportive to teach me more than I needed to know even in fields outside of my background like surgery, pathology, and bioimaging. When I was an intern, I also realized how closely Medtronic's Mission aligns with my own value system and that was important in making my choice of an employer. |
How is Medtronic differentiated from its competitors?
I think the medical device industry looks up to Medtronic as a leader, not only in technology, but also in building a safe and trusting environment with patients and regulatory bodies. Through living the Medtronic Mission, employees here have demonstrated commitment to giving back time and financial support to the community. |
What does Medtronic have to offer to new college graduates?
In my opinion Medtronic is large and diverse enough to offer many possible career pathways and to provide areas for growth. In most positions there is room for gaining experience outside of your business unit. The best thing about Medtronic is they put you in ‘the driver's seat' – you determine
where you want to go with your career and offer the resources you need to get there. Getting involved in social activities like Medtronic sports leagues, open technical forums, networking events and the occasional happy hour with your co-workers will help you get adjusted to moving a new location. |
What are your other interests?
Being relatively new to the Minneapolis area, I like to explore new places like local restaurants, state parks, and biking trails. I also play golf on one of the Medtronic leagues. |
