Surgical Applications

Liver Resection

The Aquamantys System is used in liver resections

Hepatic resection inherently carries the risk of significant blood loss for patients, resulting in additional cost due to transfusion and the potential for increased length of stay.1,* The Aquamantys® System uses patented Transcollation® technology, a combination of radiofrequency (RF) energy and saline, to provide hemostatic sealing of soft tissue during surgery. Through the use of devices such as the Aquamantys 9.5 XL Bipolar Sealer and the Aquamantys 6.0 Bipolar Sealer, effective hemostasis can be achieved during hepatic surgery.2

Additional Clinical Benefits of Using Transcollation Technology

  • May reduce the need for other blood management products during or after the procedure2
  • Capable of sealing bleeding liver parenchyma without producing excessive charring or eschar2
  • Reduces transfusion rates by minimizing intra-operative blood loss2

* Covance MedPAR report; length of stay has not been specifically correlated with the Aquamantys System.

Pancreatectomy

The Aquamantys System is used in pancreatectomies

Pancreatectomies often result in post-operative pancreatic leaks, exposing patients to additional risks. The Aquamantys® System uses patented Transcollation® technology, a combination of radiofrequency (RF) energy and saline, to provide hemostatic sealing of soft tissue on the resection plane and distal stump. It has been clinically shown to reduce post-operative pancreatic leaks following distal pancreatectomy.

Partial Nephrectomy

Medtronic Advanced Energy devices use patented Transcollation® technology, a combination of radiofrequency (RF) energy and saline, to provide hemostatic sealing of soft tissue during surgery. During partial nephrectomy procedures, monopolar sealers and Aquamantys® bipolar sealers are used for blunt dissection of renal parenchyma,* treatment of the tumor bed and hemostatic sealing of tissue along the resection line. Transcollation technology has been clinically proven to reduce the need for renal clamping in partial nephrectomies.

* Please note that only select advanced energy sealers are approved for blunt dissection indication.
