Community INVOLVEMENT
Sharing our Resources
Medtronic employees have a long and rich history of contributing their time and money in communities around the world. We know that sharing our people and resources is the right thing to do. Together, we can continue to fulfill Medtronic's Mission to improve the health of people and communities.
Here’s a snapshot of some of our employee accomplishments in FY08:
- Matched employee donations dollar-for-dollar to support communities in need through annual United Way campaigns in 10 communities in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada, for a total of $5.2 million. In addition, we matched $132,000 in employee donations to four global organizations helping residents recover from disasters in Myanmar and China.
- Supported employee volunteerism and giving projects including a community project competition in the Netherlands; fundraising and volunteering for the Galway Cancer Hospice in Ireland; fundraising runs, walks and bike races in almost every U.S. community where we have employees; and “Day On” Day of Service at which more than 200 employees volunteered to spend Martin Luther King Day, traditionally a “day off,” providing a “day on” of service at Second Harvest Heartland food shelf.
- Promoted community fitness and health through our partnership with the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. We provided more than 300 employee volunteers and welcomed 21 Global Heroes during the Marathon weekend events in October, and hosted the second annual Medtronic TC Kids Marathon Fun Run to kick off online training and fitness resources for children and families.
- Made over $1.5 million in CommunityLink grants to health, community and human services organizations, with guidance from local employee-staffed CommunityLink communities.
- Expanded our Volunteer Grants program world-wide, providing grants up to the equivalent of $500 U.S. employees who donate 25 hours of their time to a qualified nonprofit or nongovernment organization.
