A Legacy of Giving
Maintaining good citizenship as a company is one of the six tenets of the Medtronic Mission, the principles that guide the company. Since Medtronic was founded in 1949, we have contributed more than $470 million in Medtronic Foundation grants, Medtronic cash contributions and medical device donations to improve the health of people and communities.
We're passionate about improving the health of people and communities where we can make unique and positive contributions. To help our community partners make the greatest impact, we focus in these three areas:
- Improving the health of people with chronic diseases.
- Educating future generations of scientific innovators.
- Enhancing the communities where we live and work.
By bringing together multiple resources — grants from the Medtronic Foundation, the talents and gifts of our 38,000 employees worldwide, donations of medical devices and creative partnerships with our community organizations — we're improving the health of people and communities around the world.
Growing to Serve Our Global Community
Whether you're in Tokyo, Minneapolis or San Juan, the global community meets you the moment you step outside. That's what we've discovered as we expanded the Medtronic Foundation's reach to meet the increasing needs of our worldwide community. The work we do in our focus areas of health, education and community has an impact on more countries and cultures than ever before.
Creating local solutions to global issues means we must do things differently to bridge languages, cultural practices, currencies and time zones. Fortunately, the values by which we operate - building partnerships, being inclusive, empowering others - are fundamental to the needs of people everywhere. Our work happens through Medtronic Foundation grants, product donations, the talents and gifts of our employees, and meaningful partnerships with leading nonprofit organizations.
A reflection of our global growth as a company, the percentage of our overall giving in the international community has grown from 8% to nearly 20% in just five years and we now make grants in 28 different countries.
Building the Momentum
Our ability to extend the reach of the Medtronic Foundation results from Medtronic's steady growth and a plan to grow our philanthropy 10% annually over the next five years. Most importantly, our growth is due to 38,000 talented and compassionate employees who are the engine of our community involvement. Thanks to their commitment, we're able to partner with people around the world to improve the lives of people and communities. In the years ahead, we look forward to maintaining a strong presence in our communities and bringing our passion for community citizenship to life. |
