Science Matters

At the Medtronic Foundation, we know that science isn’t contained with the classroom. That’s why we’ve sponsored Science Matters, a free 16-page family science guide designed to spark exploration, discovery and learning in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects.

The publication is a tool for parents, caregivers and teachers to work directly with young learners at home, at school and in the community. Content is intended for both adults and kids, with activities and subjects primarily geared to 4th-, 5th- and 6th-graders.

With a blend of ideas, activities, scientist profiles and an exploration of “everyday” science, Science Matters will:

  • Reinforce the important role of nurturing a child’s natural curiosity
  • Give families a comforting understanding of what science is, and future careers in STEM areas
  • Provide a range of interactive explorations and activities (from beginners to advanced) associated with the three primary areas of science development
    • Science as inquiry
    • Science as invention
    • Science and community
  • Provide families with additional science resources, and a guide to community science organizations in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Memphis, Tenn.

The Medtronic Foundation offers Science Matters free of charge.  Teachers and youth leaders may request up to 50 copies while supplies last (please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery).
