General Eligibility Guidelines

We fund:

  • In the U.S.: organizations with 501(c)(3) status (an IRS determination letter verifying that status is required with each application)
    Note: Public and private schools, and educational institutions are the only exceptions to this rule.
  • Outside the U.S.: organizations registered as nonprofits, or in some cases, organizations that function as nonprofits, which could include schools and government institutions

We do not fund:

  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) grants
  • 501(c)(3) type 509 (a)(3) supporting organizations
  • Capital or capital projects
  • Fiscal agents
  • Fundraising events/activities, social events or goodwill advertising
  • General operating support
  • General support of educational institutions
  • Greater Twin Cities United Way supported programs
  • Individuals, including scholarships for individuals
  • Lobbying, political or fraternal activities
  • Long-term counseling or personal development
  • Program endowments
  • Purchases of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs)
  • Religious groups for religious purposes
  • Private foundations
  • Research
