Medtronic Welcomes Jacob Gayle as Vice President of Medtronic Foundation and Community Affairs
In September 2011, Medtronic, Inc. announced Dr. Jacob Gayle as vice president of the Medtronic Foundation and Medtronic community affairs. Gayle brings considerable global health experience to Medtronic, having served as deputy vice president of the Ford Foundation leading the Global Initiative on HIV/AIDS. Prior to that role, he was employed for more than 16 years with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
He also has extensive experience in global programming, including serving as technical advisor and chief of the global HIV/AIDS division to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and as a senior advisor to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Gayle has served around the world, including long-term assignments in South Africa, Switzerland, and across the Caribbean. Gayle will lead the strategic development and implementation of global corporate citizenship programs, including philanthropy and employee engagement. He remains an adjunct associate professor at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.
Gayle received his Bachelors degree in Psychobiology from Oberlin College and was awarded Masters degrees in Preventive Medicine and Health Education/Community Health, as well as a Ph.D. in Community/International Health, from The Ohio State University.
The Medtronic Foundation manages the majority of Medtronic's strategic philanthropic programs, with grants closely aligned with the company's commitment to improve access to quality healthcare and address the global burden of chronic disease. In fiscal year 2011, the Medtronic Foundation awarded $30.6 million in grants.
