HEARTRESCUE GUIDELINES
United States
Purpose
The goal of the HeartRescue program in the U.S. is to have a long-term impact in our communities by creating a new generation of people who will understand the risk factors for SCA, will recognize SCA when it happens, and take immediate action to help save a life when it does. School-based training in emergency activation and CPR is an effective investment because these skills provide potential benefit throughout the community and not just at school. School training contributes to life long awareness, knowledge, and skills that can lead to more lives saved now, and in the future.
Eligible Recipients
Nonprofit organizations, public institutions, schools, school districts and government agencies.
Funding Priorities
Priority will be given to schools, school districts, non profit organizations, and government agencies that develop or improve existing components of a comprehensive school-based SCA education and emergency response plan that includes:
- SCA education including risk factors, signs and symptoms, and CPR/AED training for all students at one or more grade levels each year, ideally embedded in a health, physical education, or science curriculum.
- Public access to AEDs on-site and at school sponsored athletic events, with designated responders.
- A designated program manager to oversee the implementation and ongoing quality assurance of the grade level student training, AED placement/maintenance, designated responder training, and emergency response plan for cardiac emergencies.
Priority will be given to new initiatives that have had no prior funding for their project. Priority will also be given to applicants who best demonstrate sustainability, cost effectiveness, community partnerships, and those that include a component serving a socio-economically disadvantaged or minority population.
