Creating a healthier world through education

Teach for America

Medtronic's continued success in combating chronic disease requires the development of a new generation of healthcare innovators determined to explore new ideas and challenge old assumptions. Our Medtronic grant making is focused in two fundamental areas:

  • STEM education, with an emphasis on ensuring access to quality STEM education for under-represented students in primary, secondary and post-secondary institutions.
  • Education reform, with an emphasis on ensuring the high quality of administration and teachers in primary and secondary education.

We support these efforts through education-related grant programs and strategic partnerships with national organizations such as Teach for America, Science Buddies, Change the Equation, 50CAN, and FIRST Robotics. Grant programs include:

Science Matters Magazine

Science Matters Cover

Science Matters is a free family science guide created by the Medtronic Foundation and made available to parents, caregivers and teachers. Designed as a complement to science exploration, it is geared primarily for 4th to 6th graders. The latest edition is packed with activities, ideas, and personal profiles to help inspire the next generation of healthcare innovators.

STEM Education Grants

(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Ignite and sustain students' natural curiosity in science and technology though hands-on primary and secondary programs, and help further develop innovators through science and engineering scholarships and fellowships at selected post-secondary institutions.

Ensure all students have access to a quality public education through innovative programs that improve educational systems, closing the gap between underserved and affluent school districts.

Community STEM Education Grants

Respond to local education needs identified by employee philanthropy committees, with particular emphasis on STEM education for underserved, minority, and female students. These funds are distributed by employee groups.

Matching Gifts to Education

Match individual Medtronic employee contributions made to educational institutions in select geographies up to $15,000 annually. Medtronic employees can access this program on the internal Mission-in-Motion volunteer and giving website.
