HeartRescue

Launched the five-year, $15-million HeartRescue Project, an unprecedented, collaborative initiative to increase sudden cardiac arrest survival rates in the United States.

Working with leading resuscitation experts in five pilot states, partners will develop state-wide systems that coordinate SCA training, measurement and treatments for the general public, first responders and EMS, and hospitals. Learn more at HeartRescueProject.com.

NCD Alliance

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including heart disease and diabetes, are the leading cause of death in most countries outside of Africa.

The Medtronic Foundation awarded $1 million to the NCD Alliance, an international coalition of nonprofits charged with developing data-driven plans and recommendations for the September 2011 United Nations’ high-level NCD meeting. The grant, along with a portfolio of grants focused on strengthening health systems, is part of a comprehensive Medtronic commitment to drive reduction in NCD mortality and morbidity.

PatientLink

Granted more than $4.6 million to 69 patient-serving organizations around the world dedicated to improving the lives of people with chronic diseases.

  • A grant to the European Federation of Neurological Associations supported training designed to improve patient-led organizations knowledge of, and participation in, the Health Technology Assessment process. This process is crucial in bringing new drug and medical technologies to patients.
  • In the United States, a grant supported a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation government relations program designed to increase grassroots patient advocacy.
