Innovating for a Better World

The sixth tenet of the Medtronic Mission is to maintain good citizenship as a company. While today it is common for corporations to give generously to community, it is telling that the Medtronic Mission statement, written in 1960, would include an important guideline specifically dedicated to being a responsible neighbor.

The world seems smaller perhaps due to the fast pace of technology and information sharing. And more and more people are interested in how big corporations behave, and give back to the communities in which they live and work. Citizenship at Medtronic today includes everything from taking care of the environment and best-in-class labor practices to the high standards that guide the way that we do business and create quality products. Of course, being a good citizen also includes philanthropy. More than half a century since the Medtronic Mission was written, total giving at Medtronic has surpassed $606 million and given help and hope to millions of people around the globe.

The Medtronic Foundation was created in 1978 and is charged as the primary channel for Medtronic's strategic giving, with the majority of grant programs thoughtfully aligning with the company's commitment to improve access to quality healthcare.
