Heart failure is a chronic condition for which there is no cure. Early diagnosis and ongoing treatment are critical in slowing the disease, and improving a person’s overall quality of life. Treating heart failure depends on the stage of the disease (mild, moderate or severe). Lifestyle changes and drugs are typically recommended and may relieve symptoms like swelling or shortness of breath. Surgery may be considered to repair a defective valve or diseased coronary artery. In certain heart failure cases, when the two lower chambers of the heart no longer beat in a coordinated manner, cardiac resynchronization therapy may be prescribed. Medtronic’s InSync® Cardiac Resynchronization System has been clinically proven to provide patients with better exercise capacity, the ability to resume daily activities and an improved quality of life with fewer symptoms.
