Did you know that chronic pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined? According to the American Pain Foundation, more than 70 million Americans suffer from chronic pain and each year another 25 million experience acute pain from injuries or surgery. Many types of pain can be greatly reduced with proper management; however most incidents are untreated, under-treated, or improperly treated.2

To help patients prevent and treat pain, Rite Aid and the American Pain Foundation are partnering to provide free comprehensive pain management information in August and September at all Rite Aid stores nationwide. Customers can pick up a free 11-page Pain Relief Guide with important information on pain prevention and available treatments at any Rite Aid. There is also a free Pain Prevention Tip Book with advice on how to prevent pain, and savings on pain relief products.

It is important to understand your pain and how it affects your life when determining treatment for your pain. Acute pain occurs suddenly due to illness, injury, or surgery, and is of short duration. Chronic pain, in contrast, may be persistent or intermittent, and can last longer than the expected healing time. There are a variety of options for treating and managing all types of pain, including medication, exercise, and specialized types of therapy. Please work with your healthcare provider to determine the proper treatment options for you.

Information on the Free Pain Relief Guide and Free Pain Prevention Booklet may be found at: www.riteaid.com/health/pain.jsf.
