Medtronic Neurosurgery external drainage and monitoring (EDM) products meet a variety of needs for CSF drainage and monitoring. From the completely closed drainage and monitoring system of the Becker^® EDMS to the ventriculostomy kit -- all products are designed for speed and convenience in emergency situations. All EDM products come with latex-free injection sites, minimizing the chance for adverse patient/personnel reactions to latex.

EDM ventricular catheters with and without BioGlide® are fabricated of radiopaque (barium impregnated) silicone tubing, and are packaged with stainless steel stylets inserted in the lumen. All EDM ventricular catheters include luerlock connectors to facilitate catheter connection to an external drainage system. The 35 cm EDM ventricular catheters include a trocar for catheter tunneling and a fixation collar for anchoring the catheter outside the catheter exit site.

EDM lumbar catheters are made from radiopaque (barium impregnated) kink-resistant silicone tubing. Accessories include silicone elastomer fixation tabs to anchor the catheter outside the catheter exit site and luerlock connectors for catheter and drainage system attachment. Silicone strain reliefs are included with each catheter to reduce catheter stress and prevent the catheter from kinking at the luerlock connection. A 14-gauge Tuohy needle is also included to facilitate percutaneous catheter placement without need for laminectomy. Maneuverability of the closed tip catheter is increased by a stainless steel-coated guidewire with adjustable stop.	EDM Lumbar Catheters: Closed Tip (top); Open Tip (bottom)
