3f Aortic Bioprosthesis
Medtronic 3f® Tissue Valve is designed to function like a human aortic valve.
Overview
The 3f® Aortic Bioprosthesis is a tissue valve obtained from a horse heart, which is strong and pliable. The 3f heart valve is made without a frame (stent). This allows the valve to move and work like a natural valve. It is assembled into a tubular shape, and one end is covered with a fabric ring used to sew the valve into the heart. When the heart pumps, the 3f heart valve transforms from its tubular shape into the shape of the human aortic valve. It opens and closes with each heartbeat.
Placement
The 3f tissue valve is used to replace a diseased, damaged, or malfunctioning aortic heart valve.
Features
The 3f heart valve was designed to work like a human valve. The design restores blood flow to levels similar to a healthy human valve1 and helps decrease the risk of leaks that cause blood to flow backwards through the aorta (aortic regurgitation).2
