Simulus Adjustable Annuloplasty System
Overview
Heart valve disease occurs when valves fail to open and close properly. Diseased heart valves are either narrowed (stenotic), limiting the amount of blood pumped to the rest of the body; or incompetent (regurgitant), failing to close completely and allowing blood to flow backwards into the atrium.
Heart valve repair is an effective therapy for many patients with diseased valves. A ring or band from the Simulus® Adjustable Annuloplasty System can be sewn around the base of the valve where it attaches to the heart (the annulus) to support the valve repair by providing shape and stability.
Size
The Simulus adjustable ring and band are available in eight sizes ranging from 25 mm to 39 mm to fit your specific need.
Placement
The Simulus adjustable ring and band are used for mitral or tricuspid valve repair. The mitral valve controls the flow of blood from your heart’s left atrium into the left ventricle. The tricuspid valve controls the flow of blood from your heart’s right atrium into the right ventricle.

The Simulus adjustable ring and band enable subtle size changes during repair so your doctor can fit the ring or band precisely to the annulus.
The adjustable ring and band are made of flexible, braided polyester, allowing them to mimic the natural movement of the heart valve. Flexibility allows your repaired valve to continuously move and change shape and size just as a natural valve does.
X-ray Examinations: The Simulus adjustable ring and band are radiopaque, which means they show up clearly on x-rays and in other diagnostic tests. This makes it easier for your doctor to determine if the implant is doing the job it’s supposed to.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): The adjustable ring and band have no metal components and, therefore, are safe for use in magnetic resonance imaging.
