Questions and Answers – Getting Meniett Therapy

How do I get the Meniett device? Do I need a prescription?

Yes, you need a prescription for the Meniett® device, which your doctor will fax to Medtronic. See how to order the Meniett device for Ménière’s disease.

Is Meniett therapy covered by insurance?

Meniett therapy is an FDA-cleared treatment for Ménière’s disease, but not all insurance companies cover the device. Our Therapy Access department may be able to help you get coverage, and we also offer financial assistance. Learn more.

Is the Meniett device hard to use or carry around?

No, the Meniett device is very easy to use and your doctor will show you how. It's small, portable, and convenient for doing your treatments just about anywhere.

When will I see a difference in my Ménière's disease symptoms?

It depends on your Ménière's disease. Most Ménière's disease patients who are helped by Meniett therapy will see a difference within 6 weeks. Just remember: For the first 6 weeks that you use your Meniett device, it’s extremely important to follow your prescription every day and don’t skip any Meniett treatments. If you skip treatments, you won’t know for sure if the device can help your Ménière's disease symptoms.

What if Meniett therapy doesn’t help my Ménière's disease?

Each Ménière's disease patient is different, and there is no Ménière's disease treatment that works best for everyone. Meniett therapy is most effective for Ménière's disease patients whose worst symptom is dizziness and vertigo.

If you do your Meniett treatments exactly as prescribed for 6 weeks and your dizziness/vertigo doesn’t get any better, then your Ménière's disease may not respond to Meniett therapy. You can return the Meniett device for a refund within 6 weeks of purchase.

Why do I have to repeat the Meniett treatments?

Ménière's disease patients have too much inner ear fluid called endolymph. But endolymph helps you hear and maintain your balance, so your inner ear always produces it. That’s why the fluid will eventually build up again after each Meniett treatment, so doctors usually prescribe 3 Meniett treatments per day.

How long do I keep using Meniett therapy?

Research shows that Meniett therapy is safe and effective for long-term use in most Ménière’s disease patients. In general, Ménière’s disease patients use Meniett therapy for as long as they need it. Most patients who are helped by Meniett therapy notice that their symptoms return if they stop their Meniett treatments. However, eventually, your Ménière’s disease may go into remission. Be sure to ask your doctor if you have questions about your Ménière’s disease treatment.
