Following a low-salt diet is very important for people with Ménière’s disease, as well as other health conditions. You can monitor your salt intake at home by cooking with low-sodium recipes.

There are many cookbooks and websites where you can find low-salt recipes that are delicious and satisfying. Here are a few websites where you’ll find recipes and information about following a low-salt diet:

Watch Out for Hidden Sources of Salt

Be careful about consuming these “hidden” sources of sodium:

  • Pre-packaged, pre-made foods (canned, frozen, deli meats, cheese, etc.)
  • Restaurant foods
  • Pre-packaged, pre-made beverages

Read the nutrition labels on the pre-packaged food and beverages you buy at the grocery store or elsewhere. At restaurants, tell your server about your dietary needs and ask if they offer meals with very low sodium.

Your doctor may also have suggestions and resources you can use to help you follow a low-salt diet for your Ménière’s disease.
