How do I know if a shunt is right for me?
In order to determine whether a shunt is right for you or your family member, your healthcare team will use one or more of a variety of possible diagnostic tests. He or she will also consider any other conditions you may have.

You’ll work with a variety of healthcare professionals as you pursue shunt therapy.
What happens during shunt implantation surgery?
How long will I need to stay in the hospital for shunt placement?
Most people leave the hospital within 2 to 7 days, depending on their clinical progress.
What happens after the procedure is over?
Immediately after surgery, you’ll go to the post-anesthesia care unit. You’ll stay there for close observation for about an hour and then go to your room.
