Talk to a Patient Who Receives DBS Therapy

Sometimes it helps to talk with someone who is receiving DBS Therapy and to hear about their experiences with the therapy. Medtronic DBS Therapy volunteers are available to answer your questions and share their experience with DBS Therapy.

Talk With Someone Who Understands

Whether you are considering or receiving Medtronic DBS Therapy, the Ambassador Program is a helpful resource available to you at no charge. During your one-on-one conversation with a Medtronic DBS Therapy volunteer, you can ask questions such as:

  • What was the procedure like?
  • Are you happy with the treatment?
  • How often do you change your neurostimulation settings?
  • How do you know when your settings may need to be changed?

When you sign up to talk to an ambassador, you'll be able to view profiles of our ambassadors, choose the ambassador you want to talk to, and schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Meet Some of These Special Volunteers

Karen and Jim met in an online forum for people who have Parkinson's disease. Later, they decided to get together in person, and eventually got married! Today both receive DBS Therapy. Karen and Jim talk with people who are considering DBS Therapy for Parkinson’s disease, both through a support group at their local clinic and as volunteers for the Ambassador Program. Jim says, “It helps to talk to someone who has actually been through the process.” Read their story.

Rick, another volunteer with the Ambassador Program, says it’s “good to have a support network of people who’ve been through it.” Read Rick’s story.

Talking with the Volunteer

Medtronic DBS Therapy volunteers do not offer medical advice or technical support. The volunteer’s remarks do not replace conversations with your doctor about the therapy or whether it may be right for you. For medical questions, please consult your doctor. If you have a Medtronic product and need technical support, please call (800) 510-6735.

Medtronic DBS Therapy volunteers are not Medtronic employees. Medtronic does not monitor for control, and cannot be responsible for a volunteer’s statements. Volunteers are instructed not to disclose your personal information, but we cannot guarantee this will not happen. Therefore, please do not share your personal information with the volunteer unless you wish to do so. Volunteers’ comments relate to their particular experience only. As with any treatment, individual results will vary.

We reserve the right to end the “Talk to a Volunteer” program at any time. We courage you to carefully review the information on this website and to discuss therapy options with your doctor.

Information on this site should not be used as a substitute for talking with your doctor. Always talk with your doctor about diagnosis and treatment information.
