Spasticity is one of the most disabling aspects of brain injury.41,42 Spasticity may interfere with mobility, use of residual motor function, transfers, sleep, and the overall rehabilitation and functional outcome of traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients.42 Cerebral-origin spasticity also may cause discomfort and deformity, and increased burden of care.18

Managing cerebral-origin spasticity with Medtronic ITB Therapy (Intrathecal Baclofen Therapy):

  • Significantly reduces spasticity in upper and lower extremities41,42,44
  • Shows a positive impact on functional measures and ease of care18,43
  • Decreases pain associated with spasticity18,35,43,44
  • Demonstrates positive anecdotal findings such as improved ease of care, locomotion42,43
  • Demonstrates functional improvements42,43,44
