Lead body design

The Sprint™ multilumen construction is optimized by extra lumens, which are designed to make the lead body more durable and more resistant to crush. Finite element analysis performed on tubing with and without extra lumens shows that the extra lumens allow greater compression of the tubing without insulation breaches. In tubing with extra lumens, testing showed that internal stress is minimized around the conductors and instead absorbed by the extra lumens. In tubing without extra lumens, testing showed that internal stress is concentrated around the conductors.

All Sprint lead bodies are composed of one continuous piece of silicone tubing from tip to IS-1 connector (6932, 6942); to bifurcation (6943); or to trifurcation (6945). The continuous lead body is designed to improve the reliability of Sprint leads by providing:

  • Improved mechanical strength
  • Smooth overall surface
  • Easy insertion, positioning, and passage through valve
