Clinical Program Manager
Each day I arrive at the Pyramid office in Memphis, TN brings a new experience. There are days I focus on high-level project management and budget activities. There are days I focus on monitoring, statistical, and data management plans. I spend time reviewing clinical data collected from our investigational sites for data and safety trends. However, my favorite activity would be the opportunity to work with clinical investigators across the United States each day. I work with investigators that have a vast array of research experience. It is always a challenge to determine the individual needs of each investigator as well as his/her clinical staff. My goal, in the role of clinical trial manger, is to ensure our clinical investigational sites have the experience, training, information, and materials they need to successfully present Medtronic’s clinical studies to their patients. For patients that choose to participate in our clinical trials, the investigational product is then provided to the physician to assist them in restoring their patients to a healthier state. I do believe our customer is the physician but our ultimate customer is the patient.
I was first introduced to Medtronic through a cardiovascular sales representative while working for an internal medicine physician in Memphis over 20 years ago. I was impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of the representative. I was amazed at the advanced technology Medtronic was using to remotely monitor the pacemaker activity of their patients. When the opportunity was presented to me several years ago to come work for Medtronic, my thoughts immediately turned to the exciting possibility of working for such a forward-thinking, advanced company. I do believe that Medtronic is in a position to face the ever-changing healthcare environment and will continue to find ways to advance and bring better healthcare options to our patients.
My interest in coming to Medtronic originally centered around the fact that Medtronic’s Spinal division was working on several new pharmaceutical products. This was a very forward-thinking investment for a device company. The technologies I have witnessed as part of the pharmacology product lines will bring new, safer medical alternatives to patients in several therapeutic areas. I have been able to work hand in hand with numerous groups across our organization, such as Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, Office of Medical Affairs, Manufacturing, and Health Economics. I continue to grow and learn from my colleagues every day. There is a true team spirit and palpable excitement around the possibilities of bringing new, innovative products to our patients.
