Why do you enjoy working at Medtronic?

Medtronic is a mission-driven innovation company that differentiates itself from many of its peers. The company has clear track records of innovation history, in which many industrial #1s are associated with Medtronic. The company has also committed to enhancing products' affordability and to removing accessibility barriers through new product and business model innovation. I truly enjoy being immersed within this innovation culture, and at my daily job I contribute to innovating for life.

What do you love about your job?

My job allowed me to build a brand new innovation center from scratch in a country where R&D didn't exist in the past. This is an exciting opportunity for me to make huge impacts on addressing unmet medical needs in my own country. And hopefully the success can be further leveraged to support other emerging markets to ensure better quality of life for people in those regions. The center will first develop new solutions to meet needs of China customers and patients based on existing Medtronic products and therapies. In addition, we will identify areas of medicine of high importance to China's healthcare sector and address such needs with brand new Medtronic therapies and products leveraging the company's technology breadth.

What do you appreciate most about Medtronic?

Everybody working at Medtronic is contributing in some way to enhance the quality of life of our patients – our work is very meaningful and has positive impact.

What are your greatest accomplishments?

I was the first employee and a key founding member of the Medtronic Shanghai Innovation Center (MSIC). Under my leadership, the MSIC team has achieved a number of significant milestones, the most important of which was to establish a brand new, world-class innovation facility in China, which is the first of its kind outside the U.S. and Europe at Medtronic. I led my team to work closely with the company's global research and development teams, as well as local universities and research institutes and more importantly, partner with Chinese physicians to create innovative solutions for patients.

What do you love about your current location?

I love Shanghai, the city where I was born and now I live. Shanghai is a place where you can taste food from all parts of China. Pancakes, fried dough sticks, glutinous rice balls and soybean milk are regarded as the four classic foods for breakfast in Shanghai, which I have been enjoying since I was a kid. You will also enjoy hairy crabs from the famous Yangcheng Lake, which goes very well with the local rice wine. Meanwhile, Shanghai is the largest city by population in China and it's a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. It is a major financial center in the world and major medical technology hub in China. It's home to me…

What is your favorite quote?
