BACKED BY CLINICAL EVIDENCE

Medtronic DBS has been studied by clinical researchers for decades. DBS is not an experimental or brand new medical treatment.

Medtronic DBS therapy is supported by five Level 1 clinical studies—the highest quality of evidence.

We’re dedicated to proving the value of DBS therapy. That’s why we partnered with over 10,000 people with Parkinson’s for clinical trials and published over 2,100 original clinical publications.

RIGOROUS TESTING FOR SAFE ACCESS TO MRI

We know it's important that you have safe access to MRI if you need this important test to diagnose a medical condition or injury.1 That's why we performed rigorous testing.

  • 14 years of MRI research and testing
  • 10 million simulated patient scans performed using 38,800 scan conditions such as patient size and patient position within the MRI machine

There is a good chance – as much as 70% – that you will need an MRI within 10 years of treatment. Today, it is the preferred mode of diagnostic imaging for many disease states. So we have developed the world’s first full-body MRI-capable DBS device portfolio. Take comfort in knowing that with the proper safeguards, you can receive an MRI scan with your DBS implant should you ever need one.

7 out of ten people with Parkinson's eligible for DBS Therapy may need an MRI following their implant

*Based on recommendations by European and national medical societies. Analyses based on Parkinson's disease comorbidities recommended for MRI in Europe, the % was calculated for a real-life Parkinson's disease population potentially eligible for DBS, from US commercial health insurance database (Conroy et al, conference presentation, ECR 2015, Vienna)

MORE PEACE OF MIND WHEN TRAVELLING

Travel the world – we have you covered. Medtronic DBS is available in 73 countries worldwide, allowing you to be treated almost anywhere you go.

Medtronic DBS systems are MR Conditional, which means they are safe for MRI scans only under certain conditions. If the conditions are not met, the MRI could cause tissue heating especially at the implanted lead(s) in the brain, which may result in serious and permanent injury or death. Before having an MRI, always talk with the doctor who manages your DBS therapy to determine your eligibility and discuss potential benefits and risks of MRI.
