Our Healthcare Innovation Team tackles some of healthcare’s biggest challenges. Working collaboratively with your team and Medtronic subject matter experts, we turn innovative ideas into practical solutions designed to change the way patients experience care.
Our approach is based on the principles of human-centered design — creating effective solutions by first fully understanding the needs and challenges of the people who will use the product or service. We combine ethnographic research methods with design-based tools to transform patient and provider needs into strategic insights, opportunities, and solutions.
We can help your organization:
Healthcare Innovation participants learn human-centered design techniques during working session in the applied innovation lab.
The backdrop for the transformative work done by the Healthcare Innovation Team is the Medtronic Applied Innovation Lab. Located in Mounds View, MN, the lab is a 2,200-square foot work space.
The centerpiece of the lab is an immersive, 360-degree video environment. This unique environment lets team members virtually enter a specific environment that they may not be able to physically travel to, such as a hypertension clinic in Ghana, a Medtronic training facility in Sao Palo, Brazil, or an operating suite in Pakistan.
By immersing themselves in an actual environment, the team is able to better understand the problem they’re working to solve and empathize with the patients and caregivers they’re solving it for. Specially constructed for Medtronic, the 360-degree “holodeck” is at the forefront of innovation technology and is the only one of its kind.
In addition to the immersive environment, the innovation lab features several areas that are built out to simulate actual physical environments. One space, for example, recreates a typical living room, in order to give team members a sense of how patients might interact with medical devices in their own home.
The immersive environment, build-outs, and other cutting-edge tools help the innovation team directly experience the conditions and challenges in the environment in which they are problem solving.
